It is demonstrated that the Komax wafer mixer offers excellent mixing performance with very low COV in a confined space. The combination of centerline upstream injection and distribution elements makes it possible to achieve the desired mixing result at various flow conditions. A significant amount of mixing occurs at the three outlets of the mixer where the high velocity flow exiting the mixer interacts with the bulk flow on the downstream. Also turbulent eddies generated in the low pressure regions behind the elements enhances the mixing performance. In terms of the pressure loss, this unique wafer mixer design reduces energy loss of the flow through the mixer as more flow remains attached to the mixer walls preventing the flow separation compared to other conventional mixers.
